Bamboo Braids
This piece is one of the studies I made in preparation for the collection. A way of finding her before I fully knew what I was building.
The collection is built around one idea. The personification of Autumn. Not the season exactly. More like what the season feels like when it takes form. Earth tones have always done something to me. The way dark chocolate and burgundy and maroon sit next to each other and create something that's soft and intense at the same time. The way gold catches light differently in October. That feeling has always been in my work. I just didn't have a name for it yet.
Every color already in my palette was hers. I realized that while I was making this.
I started with the braids because hair holds expression the way a face does. The care in each line, the rhythm, the weight of it. That's where she lives in this piece. That's where Autumn shows up.
