Kassina Led Me to the Docents by the Ochre Leaves
One of my earliest memories is watching Kirikou at school. I don't remember what room it was in but I know the whole maternelle had to have been in there. They said throw em all in there, they'll love it. And we did.
When the movie was done I had that feeling that lingers for days after you watch something heavy. Not a bad feeling. Just something I didn't have words for yet. The stories were told with music underneath them and that stayed with me in a way I couldn't explain as a kid.
Many years later I found a way to put some of that on canvas. The way music holds memory. The way it holds history. The way a story passed through sound becomes something you carry.
I made this piece so that when you come across it on your journey, you are met by the docents. They will tell you a little story or two. Something to take with you. Something to tell someone else when it is your turn.
