A few months before I started this piece, a friend of mine took a picture. I saved it immediately. Something about it stayed with me. I couldn't explain it at the time and honestly I still can't fully. When GFAA announced their exhibition around the human condition I knew that was the moment to use it.

What I felt looking at that photo was longing. Like sitting with a question you know doesn't have an answer. Not sadness exactly, more like that specific feeling of accepting that some things just are the way they are. That's what I wanted to put in the painting. The blue isn't peaceful, it's just honest.
